Model and fitness influencer Orin Julie, 27, from Israel, was 18 when she first shot a gun and says the feeling was so natural it was like 'love at first shot'". Having been raped twice, Orin, a former soldier in the Israel Defense Forces, knows of the reality of sexual violence against women firsthand and is now encouraging more women to learn how to shoot, and to keep a firearm for protection. "I've been a rape victim twice in my life, the first time was at the age of eight," Orin told Jam Press. "I was sexually abused by an older man. "It affected me so much that I lost all my confidence and became scared of everything. "I turned into a really quiet child with few friends and I was always suspicious of adults, I had no trust in them. "I remember praying to God every night to send me someone strong to save me and no one came. So I became that someone. "In Israel, the rules are pretty strict so there's not a huge gun culture here, only when we get to the army are we exposed to firearms. "The first time I shot a gun was life-changing for me. I felt like I had become the 'strong someone' I needed as a child. "I think more people and especially women must know how to defend themselves." Devastatingly, Orin was raped again at the age of 15, reportedly at the hands of an 18-year-old boyfriend. The model has 621,000 followers on Instagram (@orin_julie), where she shares self-defence advice, as well as fitness tips and videos. Orin also runs an online gun accessories store, through which she promotes female empowerment and gun rights for women in the Jewish state.
