The Kara people are a semi-nomadic tribe who travel along the banks of the Omo River in search of fish ? ?Kara? meaning fish in local languages ? and fertile soil to plant their crops. The tribe has a grisly history and used to practice infanticide. Any child born out of wedlock or without the approval of an elder was thrown into the Omo River or abandoned in the nearby savannah. Referred to as ?Mingi? children, these infants were thought to be cursed.
