DETROIT, MICHIGAN, USA: DESPITE being born with NO HANDS and unable to WALK, this man has defied the odds and learnt how to drive ? and now he's mentoring others like him on living life to the full. Designer, actor, and international speaker Ryan Hudson-Peralta (41) from Detroit, Michigan, USA, was born with a rare condition called congenital limb deficiency. This is a non-genetic deformation that means Ryan?s arms and legs did not fully develop. As a result, he has no hands, short legs, and underdeveloped hips which means he cannot walk. Despite the physical challenges he faces, Ryan has hit many of the major life pillars including graduating high school, going to college, enjoying a successful career in design, and is now settled down with his family ? wife Carrie (47), daughter Myranda (26), and son Noah (19). Ryan admits that regardless of his success, growing up wasn?t always easy. During his school days, Ryan yearned to be a football or baseball player but couldn?t play like the other kids. Instead, he began coaching his school team and later coached a travelling league team into winning several championships. Whilst many of Ryan?s friends began getting their driver?s licenses in their late teens, Ryan couldn?t afford the L36,000 ($50,000) vehicle he?d require plus the extra L36,000 ($50,000) to adapt it. At birth, his parents were told he?d never be able to drive. Always one to rise to a challenge, Ryan began selling greetings cards and ran fundraisers with his aunt and was able to purchase the adapted vehicle and get behind the wheel by the time he turned 19. To this day, Ryan still faces discrimination. At job interviews, people have told him, ?We don?t have the staff of facilities for you,? and he often finds himself unable to find accessible public transport or entrances to buildings ? something Ryan is campaigning to improve.
