Children practice jumping at the school of "Le Cirque de l'Equateur" circus troupe in Libreville on October 30, 2020. - The glory days of Le Cirque de l'Equateur, Gabon's only circus troupe -- and its only circus school -- have long passed and there is no longer enough funding for even cursory safety equipment. Around the turn of the millenium, it represented the Central African country in the world's biggest circus festivals, but it has since fallen on hard times. Without funding or equipment, it could not keep up with the demands of a modern circus, which have themselves struggled due to the controveries over animal welfare, rising touring costs and of course now the pandemic.
