Joca enjoying the sunshine BRAZIL, SOUTH AMERICA THIS OWNER was devastated after his emotional support dog was left to bake to death in the sun by bungling airport staff.
Harrowing reports tell how João Fantazzini's four year old dog Joca died while in the care of a transport service provided by Brazil's Gol Linhas Aéreas airline during a trip from Guarulhosa just outside Sao Paolo, 6,800 miles to Sinop, in the interior of the country.
"After disembarking in Sinop Airport, the owner, João Fantazzini, was notified of the error and chose to return to Guarulhos to find the pet again," stated reports.
When João arrived at the airport he was informed of Joca's death. João's family accused the company of not having provided the necessary care to the animal.
“Gol states that it accompanied Joca throughout the journey and that he died in São Paulo," said the family in a statement.
“Arriving in Fortaleza, they [Gol] left the dog in the sun on the track inside the box. Our Joca arrived in SP and they reported that he was dead.
“Sadly, Joca was an emotional support dog. [...] Because of one mistake, he ended our family! Nothing will bring our Joca back”, said Giovanna Fantazzini, sister of Joca’s guardian."
“After the death of a 4-year-old golden retriever dog, this Monday (22/4), Gol Linhas Aéreas suspended the sale of the pet transport service for a month on trips carried out in the hold of the planes,” said reports.
“The 30-day deadline was established due to investigations into the death of the dog Joca. The dog was supposed to be on the same flight as the owner - from Guarulhos to Sinop -, but, due to a logistics error by Gollog, a company that belongs to Gol, he was sent to Fortaleza.
“When taken back to Guarulhos, Joca was found dead.
The airline has now suspended their transport service for 30 days.
In the statement, the company, Gol said customers who contracted animal transport between April 24th and May 23rd will be able to opt for a full refund of the amount, including their ticket.ENDS
