First ever Shelby 289 Cobra selling for £1.1million…and it's done just over mile a day for six decades
The first Shelby 289 Cobra ever made is set to sell for £1.1million at auction.
The vintage car was built just over 60 years ago.
It has done just 27,200 miles over the last six decades.
It works out at just 453 per year or just 1.2 per day in that time.
The classic white open top motor has an impressive top whack of 150mph.
It is in amazing condition and dubbed a “remarkable testament to automotive history.”
It has all its original features and documents.
The Cobra - with the chassis number of CSX 2044 - has had just three careful owners.
It is being sold by auctioneers RM Sotheby’s in Phoenix, Arizona, US, on 25 January.
A spokesperson for the auctioneer said: “CSX 2044, the first 289 Cobra, stands as a remarkable testament to automotive history with its preservation of original features and meticulous documentation.
“Making it likely the most obsessively documented Cobra on the planet.
“Featured in nearly every significant catalogue of Shelby marque history, it has had just three fastidious owners since new, previously owned by the preeminent Shelby collector Lynn Park.”
They added: “Currently indicating just shy of 27,200 miles at the time of cataloguing, this Cobra is still powered by its numbers-matching 289 engine.
“An incredible prize of distinct, irreproachable significance, CSX 2044 is a reflection of its owners and remains a benchmark reference car.
“Dr Horn’s prized possession allows for a blast into the hills on a cool Saturday evening, looking and driving just as it did 50 years ago, highlighting its unique originality and drivability.
“In a class of its own, CSX 2044 is, and will forever be, the first and only 289 Cobra of its kind.
It has a sale estimate of between £945,000 and £1.1million.
