Boris Johnson made a surprise visit to Kyiv for a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday (17June2022).
He made after pulling out of a conference in Doncaster with his Members of Parliament at the last minute.
The prime minister was due to make a speech before Tory northern MPs, councillors and business leaders on Friday afternoon.
In a posts on his Telegram account alongside these imagesand video, Zelenskyy wrote: “Many days of this war have proved that Great Britain's support for Ukraine is firm and resolute. Glad to see our country's great friend Boris Johnson in Kyiv again.”
“This is Boris Johnson's second visit to Kyiv since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of our land. We have a common view of the movement towards Ukraine's victory. I'm grateful for a powerful support!”
Johnson became the first leader of a G7 country to travel to Kyiv when he went in April. Zelenskyy met with leaders including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and France’s President Macron earlier this week.
