Large new Buddhist temple and monks' dormitory is being built in the grassy hills adjacent to Ganden Thubchen Choekhorling Monastery, the 500 year old monastery the Dalai Lama III in 1580. It is already one of the biggest Gelukpa (Yellow Hat) sect monasteries in Tibet. Litang, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan, Peoples Republic of China (Kham, Tibet). In 2016, Governor Yeshe Dawa said that Beijing had plans to invest nearly US$30 billion ? about US$25,000 per person ? over a five-year period in the majority Tibetan prefecture of Ganzi, on infrastructure, to win hearts and minds, and solidify Beijing's control of restive Tibetan-majority areas. Monasteries in the region have also received millions of dollars in government funding for renovation.
