The Olympic Village, where athletes live during the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, is opened to the press in Chuo Ward, Tokyo on June 20, 2021. The Olympic Village has three areas, "residential zone", "operation zone" and "village plaza," on a site of approximately 44 hectares, and can accommodate up to 18,000 athletes and related people. Village Plaza is a facility that supports the lives of athletes, including banks, cafes, post offices, woek spaces and general stores. The building is made of approximately 40,000 pieces of wood provided by local governments nationwide. As a countermeasure against infection with the new coronavirus, an outpatient clinic for fevers and a facility for collecting samples necessary for testing COVID-19 is set up near the general clinic.
