Pictured: Salt workers at sunrise in Vietnam. Salt workers start their shift early in golden light at sunrise on Hon Khoi salt fields in Vietnam. The workers start at 4am and work until 8am to avoid the hot daytime sun as temperatures can go as high as 40 degrees Celsius in the mid-day heat. The salt field workers, who are all around 40, wear traditional Asian conical hats, as well as boots, gloves and facemasks to protect themselves from the sun and the salt. While the male workers are in charge of raking and collecting the salt into heaps, the female workers are tasked with carrying the salt in bamboo frames to processing sites.
