14 year-old Samy Fikiri rests on the bed he sometimes occupies in the hospital of Boga, Ituri, Congo. Sami lost his right foot several months earlier when his village was attacked by a militia. Both his parents died in the attack. His case is followed by doctors at the Boga hospital, and he sometimes sleeps there when he cannot find someone to take him in, as he is not from Boga itself. 14-year-old Samy Fikiri's family was massacred in the forest near Boga in August 2020 after his village was attacked by militants. He lost his mother, father, two brothers and four sisters. Because he lost his leg in the machete attack (in addition to serious arm wounds) Samy is allowed to sleep at the UNICEF-supported General Reference Hospital in Boga most nighttime. But he is desperately looking for a host community family to adopt him and give him a new start in life. "I do not have a leg," he said, "so how am I going to be able to look after myself, especially when my stump in so painful?"
