Who???s a pretty boy? A parrot has been given a brand-new beak after being rescued in a bad condition. Renascer ACN, a Brazilian bird and animal rescue centre, bought the poorly wild bird in after being alerted to its plight. Thanks to the work of veterinarian Maria ??ngela Panelli Marchi?l a perfectly functioning beak was handmade from polymethylmethacrylate for the parrot. Paulo Roberto Martins Nunziata, founder of Renascer ACN, told Bored Panda: ??sThe process is completely handmade. The material used, polymethylmethacrylate, has a quick hardening (three to five minutes) and is so resistant that it would need a chainsaw to be removed.??? Despite the strength of the new prosthesis, it has been decided the parrot will not be returned to its natural habitat as there???s a risk of it failing over time. Parrots rely on their beaks to survive, using it for functions including climbing, as well as manipulating and crushing objects.
