A KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence (KZNSB) boat crew head out to service shark nets offshore Amanzimtoti beach near Durban, on December 11, 2020. - KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence (KZNSB) is an organisation headquartered in Umhlanga that maintains a shark control system, using shark nets and drum lines, off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal Province. The current KZNSB shark control program has been widely criticised by environmentalists, who report that shark nets and drum lines kills indistinctly sharks, dolphins, turtles, whales and dugongs. In 2019 only, 690 sharks have been captured by shark nets in the region, although the KZNSB declare that most of them have released alive. (Photo by Michele Spatari / AFP)
