New Zealand, Picton, 6 December 2018 A portrait of James Wilson (aged 77 years). Wilson is a volunteer with the Picton Dawn Chorus, an Incorporated Society, set up by a group of passionate Picton residents with the aim of controlling introduced predators in order to restore our native bird life. In pre-human times, New Zealand had no mammalian predators. Native plants and animals evolved without the fear of four legged predators and therefore are not equipped with defences against them. Each year millions of native birds, lizards and invertebrates are killed by invasive predator species and many natives have been pushed to the brink of extinction. Wilson est benevole au sein du Picton Dawn Chorus, une societe constituee en personne morale, creee par un groupe de residents passionnes de Picton dans le but de contr?ler les predateurs introduits afin de retablir notre avifaune indigcne. ? l'epoque prehumaine, la Nouvelle-Zelande n'avait pas de predateurs mammifcres. Les plantes et les animaux indigcnes ont evolue sans la crainte des predateurs r quatre pattes et ne sont donc pas equipes de defenses contre eux. Chaque annee, des millions d'oiseaux, de lezards et d'invertebres indigcnes sont tues par des espcces de predateurs envahissantes et de nombreux indigcnes ont ete pousses au bord de l'extinction.
