Julien Schnabel is featured in Man of the World magazine in the USA. The 'Basquiat' director, 63, reveals that since turning his hand to fine art he has moved away from the film industry. "But I don't really know when I'll make another one [movie]," the 'Before Night Falls' director told the American publication. Adding: "Whereas painting is something I feel compelled to do all the time". On being "understood" he said: "When I was younger, I thought I wanted people to understand me. As I get older, I don't think that's part of the deal any longer. You get the privilege of making the stuff. You don't necessarily get the privilege of understanding what you did." Schnabel recently had a show of his paintings in the UK.
