Effluent water runs past the camps housing displaced families towards the Mediterranean sea, after the infrastructure and homes of hundreds and thousands of Palestinian families were destroyed in Israeli military bombardment since 2023, causing disease across the territory in Gaza City on June 20, 2026. The majority of Gaza's 2.4 million people have been displaced, often multiple times, by the war that began with Hamas's attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
