Manatees are large, gentle aquatic mammals that belong to the order Sirenia, in Florida. Like all mammals, they have hair on their bodies, although it is sparse and primarily located around their snouts. This hair, along with sensory whiskers called vibrissae, helps them detect changes in their surroundings and locate food. Despite their unique aquatic lifestyle, the presence of hair is a reminder of their warm-blooded, mammalian nature.
