Women from the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) are gathering at El Caracol Rebeldia y Resistencia in the mountains of southeast Mexico, in the area known as Dolores Hidalgo, Chiapas, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Zapatista Liberation Army's uprising. The Zapatista uprising, which began on January 1, 1994, in the state of Chiapas, was a 12-day rebellion led by the EZLN. The movement gained international attention for its demands for justice and the rights of Mexico's indigenous peoples.
