Up-close buzzard. LINCOLNSHIRE, ENGLAND: STUNNING IMAGES taken on Saturday 18th March show a buzzard looking like it was hunting for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow while scouring for its next meal.
One image from just 16 feet away shows a buzzard coming upon a dead pheasant on the ground as their next feast, right next to a beautiful rainbow.
Another shot shows the close-up reality of the buzzard’s search for their next meal while standing on top of the dead pheasant it had claimed as dinner.
Photographer Martin Goff (47) from Rossendale, Lancashire captured these beautiful shots on a private farm in Lincolnshire using a OM System OM1 and 40-150mm Pro lens with 1.4x teleconverter.
Martin was photographing the birds from a hide on a private farm in Lincolnshire when he spotted the buzzards flying down to feed on the dead pheasant, just as the sky became darker and the rainbow appeared behind them.
Martin was extremely pleased to capture a close-up encounter with the opportunistic bird scouring for and finding its next feast.
“Buzzards are opportunistic feeders and most often feed on Carrion and roadkill”, he said.
“They also eat small mammals and birds, even earthworms and large insects when other prey is in short supply. They often fight and squabble to show dominance, especially over food.
“I was photographing from a hide on a Private farm in Lincolnshire when the buzzard flew down to feed on a dead pheasant and as it was eating away the skies got progressively darker and a rainbow appeared in just the right spot.
“Who knew a buzzard was the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow!”ENDS
