Balancing on the end. Vancouver, Canada: THESE CUTE images show a pygmy owl balancing precariously on a branch as it surveys the skies.
One image shows the tiny owl hanging off a bending branch, daring it to snap.
The Northern Pygmy Owl is one of the smallest owls in North America, only growing to 6.7 inches in length and weighing 61 grams.
These images were captured by photographer Mike Ashbee (45) in Vancouver, Canada, using a Nikon D800 camera.
“I had been observing the owl sitting high at the top of a spruce as it patiently scanned its territory,” said Mike.
“A sudden movement from in the bush down below peaked its interest and it darted down landing on this branch that bowed under its miniscule weight.
“For me I love owls and their front facing eyes. Locking eyes with a wild owl is an amazing experience.
“I also find the way the branch has bowed here is very interesting.
“The nice soft out of focus background really lets the bird pop.” mediadrumworld/MikeAshbee
