It's a long term business." The plugs are made of cast iron and rubber. They are built to be installed above the producing zone of a well by applying extreme pressure that forces the cast iron to bite into the side of a steel well and then squishes the rubber against the sides to seal the hole. However, both the pipe of the well, the cement around it and the bridge plug itself all degraded over time with exposure to water, salt, hydrogen sulfide and the extreme pressure underground.
