Discovered on the Isle of Wight in 1914, MANTELLISAURUS ATHERFIEDENSIS is one of the most complete dinosaurs ever found in the UK.
The reign of the dinosaurs was cut short by a mass extinction ever around 66 million years ago, leaving the ancestors of living birds as the only dinosaurs to survive. Scientists study these extinct giant reptiles to understand the rise and fall of major groups of organisms over evolutionary time.
This dinosaur species was formerly know as Iguanodon. The name was changed in 2007 to honor the great paleontologist Gideon Mantell.

Découvert sur l'Óle de Wight en 1914, MANTELLISAURUS ATHERFIEDENSIS est l'un des dinosaures les plus complets jamais découverts au Royaume-Uni.
Le règne des dinosaures a été interrompu par une extinction massive il y a environ 66 millions d'années, laissant les ancętres des oiseaux vivants comme les seuls dinosaures à avoir survécu. Les scientifiques étudient ces reptiles géants éteints pour comprendre l'ascension et la chute de grands groupes d'organismes au cours de l'évolution.
Cette espèce de dinosaure était autrefois connue sous le nom d'Iguanodon. Le nom a été changé en 2007 en l'honneur du grand paléontologue Gideon Mantell.
