Chan Pheakdey, 10, sits in the doorway of his house after he was released from the Angkor Hospital for Children earlier that day. During the rainy season a constant presence of water makes perfect conditions for mosquitos with his sister, mother and neighbours all getting sick from dengue fever this year. 2019 was the worst dengue fever epidemic on record. A combination of dengue fevers year-on-year cycle and a changing climate saw Southeast Asia hit with hundreds of thousands of cases pushing government programs and health systems, both private and public, to the limit. The hardest hit were the poor who were often forced in to a cycle of debt in dealing with the disease.
