Jaturang Wongjiragorn, 28, sits outside his house in Chinatown, Bangkok. In September 2019, 4 members of his family caught dengue fever of which his father died from the disease after several misdiagnoses. 2019 was the worst dengue fever epidemic on record. A combination of dengue fevers year-on-year cycle and a changing climate saw Southeast Asia hit with hundreds of thousands of cases pushing government programs and health systems, both private and public, to the limit. The hardest hit were the poor who were often forced in to a cycle of debt in dealing with the disease.
