Women and girls carry water to the Great Mosque of Djenne, Mali, in preparation for the annual crepissage, or re-plastering, of the mosque on April 14, 2018. Traditionally, men and boys are responsible for carrying banco banco (a mixture of mud, rice hulls, and water) to the mosque and applying it to the exterior, and women and girls responsible for carrying water from the nearby Bani River to large mud pits where the mud is mixed with rice hulls and water.
