A section of dried mud outside of Djenne, Mali, which will be used in the annual crepissage, or re-plastering, of the Great Mosque of Djenne. This mud is mixed with rice hulls and water to form banco, which is layered on the mosque and Djenne's mud houses every year before the rainy season begins - a process necessary for the maintenance of mud structures.
