Young men and boys walk down the front steps of the Djenne mosque after dropping off baskets of banco (a mixture of mud, rice hulls, and water), in preparation for the crepissage on April 14th, 2018. Traditionally, men and boys are responsible for carrying banco to the mosque and applying it to the exterior, and women and girls responsible for carrying water from the nearby Bani River to large mud pits where the mud is mixed with rice hulls and water.
