A quiet street in Djenne, Mali on April 14, 2018, the day before the crepissage, the French term for the annual re-plastering of the Great Mosque of Djenne. The mosque and the similarly built homes in the town must have a new layer of mud added every year. The mosque and the surrounding town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated as in danger because of insecurity in the region.
