Rhino IVF at Longleat Safari Park, Wiltshire, UK - Jul 2017 *Full story: https://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/tj7r A last-ditch bid is taking place involving a British safari park to save the world's last three northern white rhinos from extinction using a pioneering IVF treatment. The incredibly rare species has been virtually wiped out due to poaching since the 1960s. The last remaining male, Sudan, is 43-years-old and reaching the end of his life. Both surviving females have medical problems which prevent them from conceiving naturally. As a result scientists and conservationists are attempting to save the species using advanced reproductive techniques which are being tried for the first time on rhinos. A team of experts have visited Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire and harvested nine eggs from the zoo's three female southern white rhinos.
