A micro-artist has created the world's smallest zoo - with all the animals on display in the eye of a needle. David Lindon has spent more than two years painstakingly creating 24 microscopic dioramas of tiny creatures including a tiger, an elephant, a giraffe, a panda, a parrot and a cheetah. They all measure less than 1mm in size and can only be viewed through a microscope. Each tiny work of art shows a scene of an animal in its natural habitat, with the Madagascan rainforest, Egyptian desert, African Savannah, Arctic ice caps and Australia's Great Barrier Reef all recreated. A micro-artist has created the world's smallest zoo with all the animals on display in the eye of a needle, Bournemouth, Dorset, UK - 19 Mar 2024 The pieces are housed inside 24 individual display towers under a protective dome which has a microscope for visitors to peer through. "Each microscopic sculpture is under 1mm in size and would be impossible to make by machine. David carves his mini masterpieces under a microscope and had to create his own handmade tools when he could not find anything small enough. He works at night to avoid the vibrations of day-time traffic and has to be careful not to cough or even breathe heavily while he is working as the slightest disturbance could mean it gets lost in the carpet. The former engineer, from Bournemouth, Dorset, is considered one of the best micro-artists in the world.
