An extremely rare 'white' red squirrel has been spotted roaming in woodlands. This squirrel has white fur, but isn't an albino. It is a red squirrel with a genetic condition that causes partial loss of pigmentation in the fur, but the eyes remain dark. The condition, called leucism, is relatively common in grey squirrels but less so with the red species. SEE OUR COPY FOR DETAILS. The story is I was doing my daily walk through the woods close to my home when something white caught my eye, I wasn't quite sure what it was as I've never seen nor heard of a white leucistic red squirrel, I quickly headed home and brought back my dSLR camera to hopefully catch him again, on subsequent outings he seemed to come over whenever he saw me, and offering some peanuts was enough to keep him in once place long enough to get some photos.
