Mum gives birth while swimming in the sea at 2 am
A mother who previously made headlines for giving birth in the sea has gone viral after giving birth to her second baby while swimming.
Josy Cornelius welcomed her fifth child - a baby boy named Maui - in the Caribbean Sea of Nicaragua after moving to the island specifically for two months just to give birth to her child.
The 38-year-old has gone into labor in the ocean twice and believes different oceans can offer different birth experiences.
Josy from Nicaragua believes in “free birth” – welcoming a child without the help of medical professionals.
And she cares so deeply about the conditions in which she raises her children that, while expecting her youngest, she even moved her family hundreds of miles away to experience the ultimate ocean birth.
"Women should plan their pregnancy and birth the same way they plan their dream wedding: no distance too far, no budget too tight, no idea too specific," the mother of five told What's The Jam.
"This is the best prerequisite for the dream birth.”
Josy previously shared snaps of herself and her husband Benni, 43, at their local beach, Playa Majagual, to mark Bodhi's birth in 2022.
More recently, Maui was born in the Caribbean Ocean at around 2 a.m. local time on 11 September 2023.
The family - including their 11-year-old daughter and three older boys aged seven, three and two - had moved to a Caribbean island in Nicaragua specifically to prepare for his birth.
Josy said: “I planned the last birth meticulously.
"The preparation took over 70 weeks.
“Our first ocean baby was just five days old when I imagined that our next baby would be born in the Caribbean sea.”
After deciding to welcome her youngest child in the Caribbean sea, Josy and her clan moved to an island two months before her due date.
