(NYT11) NEW YORK -- Oct. 3, 2003 -- NY-AFRICANS-REBURIAL-4 -- Participants in the African Burial Ground Memorial Project pause for a moment of prayer near a hand-made casket from Ghana, made for the project, prior to being transported from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J., Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 to New York City. More than 400 caskets containing the remains of slaves will be re-burried after they were discovered a decade ago during building construction in Manhattan. The remains were transported back from Howard University in Washington, D.C. where they were being studied. (James Estrin/The New York Times)
