Ranczerzy z Patagonii - Redux
The cowboys of Southern Chile are called "baqueanos," which translates literally as "the knower of a place." This baqueano rides out at dawn with his working dogs to find and gather cattle. The dogs are essential to the ranching operations and without their assistance it would be nearly impossible to find, and herd, cattle or sheep through the dense vegetation. The skills needed to handing semi-wild animals and work in adverse conditions are not taught in school and they cannot be learned from one day to the next. Only over time and alongside other individuals with a lifetime of experience can the traditions and knowledge of ranching in Patagonia be passed on.
