Splash ALASKA A HILARIOUS sequence of bears caught mid-air jumping from rocks was captured in Katmai National Park, Alaska. These flying bears were diving into the water to get their catch of the day, salmon. Most of the bears depicted here are adult brown bears, although one is a spirit bear catching fish for her little cub. Pacific salmon return to Alaska during Spring in May and continue to show in some rivers well after leaves have turned in the Autumn. Taylor Thomas Albright, a wildlife photographer from Fairbanks, USA, snapped these comical images. “My trip to Alaska was specifically geared toward the opportunity to photograph brown bears and their behaviour,” he said. “I had been in the area for a few days before I saw them. “Not all bears dive in the water like this to fish. So, after seeing one bear do this, I spent days trying to capture them jumping. “There are many different fishing techniques bears use to catch fish. “Specific methods, like diving (shown in the photos), catching fish on the waterfall or diving underwater, are learned behaviours. “Mothers show their cubs how they fish. It is passed down from generation to generation. “I was thrilled to have captured these images." ENDs
