Buddhist monks are surrounded by hundreds of candles as they light them to be used for meditation and prayers. The photos were taken at the Paro Dzong Monastery in Bhutan, South Asia. 67 year old Raimondo Restelli said, “In Buddhism, candles represent the light of the Buddha on the path to enlightenment.” “Candles are an age-old tradition of Buddhist rituals. They’re often placed in front of shrines as a mark of respect or deference, and along with incense they’re used to evoke the state of impermanence and change; a cornerstone of the Buddhist philosophy.” “In some of the temples, there were more than 300 candles, and the rooms were extremely hot.” Please byline: Raimondo Restelli/Solent News © Raimondo Restelli/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800 *** Local Caption *** Thanks for these. Do these link to the monks dancing and playing horns at the Jakar Dzong and Paro Dzong Monasterys? Are they all different Monasterys? Is this one festival or a daily life there? >> PICTURES TAKEN IN THE SAME MONASTERY HAVE THE SAME TITLE/NAME. "DZONG" STANDS FOR A FORTIFIED MONASTERY, BUT TECHNICALLY IS STILL A MONASTERY, THEN FOLLOWS THE NAME OF THE MONASTERY ITSELF/LOCATION. SOME DANCING WAS PRACTISING FOR CEREMONIES, AND SOME WERE SMALL CEREMONIES HELD SPECIFICALLY FOR US. SINGING AND PRAYING WAS PART OF THE MONK'S DAILY LIFE
