GREAT SNAP... These recently born tiny baby Gharials line up on a riverbank as they try to defy their odds to survive. The critically endangered crocodilian species were spotted by photographer and filmmaker Allen Jacob on the banks of the Chambal River in Rajasthan, India. The 27 year old said, ÒThere were roughly 400 babies sitting on the bank. It was quite an emotional experience because I know that only about 2% of these babies were going to survive. I knew that many of them fall prey to predators and of the survivors, many will be washed away by monsoon flooding.Ó ÒDespite this, gharial adults are devoted parents who fend for the babies that survive until they are big enough to do it for themselves. There are even some cases of males taking care of babies that arenÕt theirs.Ó Please byline: Allen Jacob/Solent News © Allen Jacob/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800 *** Local Caption *** 2. Do you know what type of alligators these babies are? Or just simply alligators? This is a critically endangered species call Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus)
