The road is a porous frontline straight through the zone of operations of ADF militants, with the jungle camps and HQ facilities of the latter being positioned North of the road. The FARDC (Congolese Army) is heavily engaged with the islamist militants of the ADF, who have pledged their allegiance to the Islamic State terror group. Beni Territory is informally known as being home to the 'Triangle of Death' as the site of widespread killings by the group.
