La Muralla Beach Puerto de Santa Maria Cadiz Andalusia Spain. With calm waters, La Muralla beach in El Puerto de Santa María is a cove of fine golden sand, ideal for going with children. It is considered one of the most charming beaches because at one end are the ruins and walls of the Castle of Santa Catalina, a key point in the defensive system of the Bay of Cádiz and the reason this little corner is called that. A fortification built in the 18th century that served, thanks to its artillery pieces, to protect this part of El Puerto from maritime attacks, which also included a tower that was built in the 16th century. A building that was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1949.
