The unnamed company supposedly had a tip-off from a royal insider that the Duchess of Cambridge was set to give birth to a girl and with complete confidence in their inside man, they designed plates with the message: 'To celebrate the birth of the Royal Princess'. However, on Monday when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced they had had a little boy, the small family business was left with thousands of worthless merchandise on their hands. The stock was snapped up by www.wholesaleclearance.co.uk who is selling the souvenir plates in stacks of 50 for GBP 149, or GBP 2.98 each. They have even suggested several possible uses for the pieces of 'inaccurate history' including 'waiting for baby number two and selling them for a profit', 'having a plate smashing contest' and to 'give to your colleagues as the worst secret Santa present ever'.
