Police superintendent Michael Crowley of Boston, Mass., photographed in that city with deputies on March 3, 1932 as they examined a letter mailed by a woman earlier in the day to Col. Charles A. Lindbergh. On advice from Lindbergh, the officials opened the letter. It proved to be the latest development in the case and named a place near Princeton, N.J., where the baby would be found. Officials were inclined to believe the clue genuine. It was said in the letter that the place was ?provincetown?, although officials said they believed this to be ?provinceline?, a village near Princeton. (AP Photo)
