Amy Winehouse appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court today to go on trial for common assault. The charges relate to an incident at a charity ball in September last year when the singer allegedly assaulted Sherene Flash. Earlier this year Winehouse voluntarily attended a police station in London where she was questioned and later arrested in relation to the incident at the Berkeley Ball. She pleaded not guilty to the charges at a later court hearing in March. During the alleged attack Winehouse reportedly punched 30-year-old dancer Flash on the arm and cheek after she approached the singer and asked to take a photograph. Amy recently returned to Britain following an extended break in the Caribbean. She was divorced from her estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil last week on grounds of adultery.
