Afrykańskie duchy z Sycylii - Redux
On the Streets of Catania Palamin (17) is Gambian. He comes from a very poor family. Because of this reason he stopped to go at school and started to work as electricist and bricklawer. Unfortunately his earning was not enough, so he decided to go to Europe. His trip through the desert was painful, "All the journey from my country to Italy was painful", and it took five day to reach Libya. In the city of Tripoli he was kidnapped by police. To free him, they wanted a thousand euro of ransom. "They gave me a phone to call my family and ask for this money, but my family is very poor and can not give even one euro for me". They beat him every day because they thought that was a lie. For this reason he remained into the jail for 4 months, until he escaped. Fortunately one Arab man "a very good man" tooke care of him, giving food and clothes. He helped Palamin to catch a boat for Italy without paying. The journey by boat was the worst. They started very soon in the morning, but, after 5 hours, already reached the intarnational sea, they started to sink. So they called the Italian coast guard. They needed more than one hour to find them. "Those moments were endless, we all thought we would die since we were 68 and the boat was quickly sinking". Fortunately the italian navy rescued them, some minutes before a sure tragedy. Palamin is now in Sicily. He knows that for get a good job in Italy, first he need to learn italian. Infact is what he wants to do. Study italian, and after that, look for a good job in order to send part of his earning to his poor family in Gambia.
