Ted Guenter, 92, from British Columbia, Canada has been staying at home with his partner of 71 years, Mary Guenter, 90, at their lake cabin in Burns Lake. With their old age, the pair have quarantined indoors to keep safe during the coronavirus outbreak. Having a lot more time on his hands, Ted decided to take up embroidery. He purchased cotton fabric from a local store, which cost just $7 and cut this into 25cm long squares. With the help of his daughter, Adele and daughter-in-laws Lorna and Christine, Ted then used embroidery thread to stitch elaborate designs on the fabric such as flowers, birds and various animals. As it turns out, the great grandfather is a natural at the craft, with his creations taking social media by storm. Christine, 59, later shared photos of Ted's work on Facebook, captioning the post: ??sThis is my wonderful father-in-law, Ted. He just turned 92 and was feeling cooped up due to health and Covid, so he learned to do needlework. I think he???s doing pretty well with it!??? The post has gained over 16,000 likes so far as people love the gorgeous quilts. One person wrote: "Wow!! Beautiful!! Love them!!" Someone else added: ??sThat's amazing! Keep it up Ted, you're very talented. From Northampton, England xx." A third fan wrote: "Wow just wonderful, putting us all to shame." "Ted your a trooper. Great work." [sic] Talking to Jam Press, Christine said: "Adele, Lorna Guenter and I helped by figuring out how to put the designs on the fabric, then teaching Ted long running stitches to fill in the designs. ??sThe use of colour is all Ted???s idea! ??sAll of us ladies were taught needle crafts from our mothers. ??sMy mother today at 81 is a cross-stitch queen. In her youth, she was an avid knitter. ??sShe???s mostly housebound now due to health and the Covid situation, but her needlework keeps her going. ??sTed???s wife, Mary, was also a very excellent needle crafter.??? Ted, who used to be an avid fisherman, also loves working with wood, having designed tables and bowls in the past from materials he harvested himself. The 92-year-old is overjoyed at the wonderful response to his needlework and will be making more beautiful pieces soon. Christine added: ??sTed is tickled pink and in stitches with the fact that his embroidery story has encouraged so many people, worldwide. ??sHe???s one of the loveliest, kindest human beings you could ever know.
