This video footage and these images show search and rescue operations in the aftermath of a Russian missile strike on a residential building in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv early on Wednesday morning (29June2022) that reportedly killed four people.
Officials from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said at midday local time on Wednesday that four individuals had been killed in the strike, and two people were injured - including a member of the emergency services harmed in the line of duty.
The attack comes as Russia looks to be stepping up indiscriminate attacks against civilians in cities well behind the frontlines - as an apartment block in the capital, Kyiv, was attacked on Sunday, and on Monday a devastating missile strike on a shopping mall in the central city of Kremenchuk killed at least 18.
The outskirts of Mykolaiv were the scene of fierce fighting in the early days of the war but the city had been relatively peaceful in recent weeks after a counteroffensive by Ukrainian troops pushed Russian forces back towards the southern port city of Kherson.
