Karen's footstool before upcycling. TEDDINGTON, UK: THIS MUM has shared how she has saved TWO THOUSAND POUNDS on furniture by upcycling instead of buying new. Mum of three Karen Cook (41), from Teddington, UK, started learning DIY when she was growing up, and now uses her skills to save hundreds of pounds on home improvements. After buying their dream six-bedroom detached house four years ago, Karen and husband Stuart (45) started to work their way around each room and fixing it up to suit their style. Much of Karen's DIY work is on upcycling furniture - transforming old furniture into pieces that look new or have a renewed purpose - and she says that this has saved lots of money over the years. mediadrumimages/@upstyleyourhome
