HATAY, TURKIYE - SEPTEMBER 03: A sea turtle (Caretta Caretta) is seen amid ghost nets of fishers despite the efforts of conservation, many die due to plastic wastes every year, at Samandag beach of Hatay, Turkiye on September 03, 2021. Sea turtles play key roles in the marine environment but plastic waste destroy natural life and harm their lifecycle. 2 years of data were collected for research from different coasts of Turkiye, such as Mugla, Hatay, Adana, Antalya, Istanbul and Rize. Besides, the photo story project has been captured the life of sea turtles between the Iztuzu coast, which is the nesting area of sea turtles, and the Samandag Coast of Turkiye for 4 months. At Dalyan Iztuzu Beach, a mature turtle comes to the beach to leave a baby. Brood turtles go into a trance after laying about 10 eggs. On the beach, only the veterinarians and volunteers involved are allowed in conservation activities at the Sea Turtles Research Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (Dekamer). A Caretta Caretta sea turtle observed here comes to the same beach 3 times a year to brood separately. Caretta Carettas usually dig a 40 cm deep nesting pit and lay approximately 90 eggs in each nest. It may take between 1 or 1,5 hours for a Caretta Caretta to come out of the sea, find the appropriate sand temperature and position, lay eggs, close its nest and then return to the sea. For about half an hour of this period, Caretta Carettas do not move much, as they are in a trance state. Ozge Elif Kizil / Anadolu Agency/ABACAPRESS.COM
