Emma before her eye biopsy. SHEFFIELD, UK: THIS WOMAN who was told she was the ONLY person in England with a rare form of cancer is so proud she refuses to wear a prosthetic eye after she lost her to the condition. Emma Cousins (34) from Sheffield, has been living with one eye after undergoing an operation in June 2018. She had been diagnosed with an extremely rare tumour called mesenchymal chondrosarcoma. Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is an extremely rare, often aggressive form of cancer. She was told she is 'the only person in England' with the type of cancer, it silently grew behind her left eye for 15 years. Emma?s cancer had gone undiagnosed for years until one day after her daughter?s birthday she suddenly felt sick and ended up in the emergency room. She was hospitalised for six months after she endured a Multiple Sclerosis attack. Emma was left unable to walk and has to use a wheelchair to get around the house. She has also surgically had her eye removed which initially left a small hole in her empty socket. The radiotherapy Emma received as part of her treatment to kill cancer cells sadly caused parts of her skin to die. She has now had an operation to patch up the hole using skin from her leg. Emma is now able to use a prosthetic plastic eye, yet refuses to as she would rather accept the fact that she lost that eye to cancer and identify as a survivor. mediadrumimages.com/@eyeofthesarcomacancer
