The cover of 'Sapeurs: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Congo' by Tariq Zaidi, published by Kehrer Vertag. KINSHASHA, DRC: NEW PHOTOS are offering a fascinating look into the 'rockstar' fashion subculture sweeping across the Congo. In one image, a businesswoman, a schoolboy and a policewoman stroll through a dusty district, brightly clad in colourful suits while curious passersby turn to look. Another shot shows two boys in front of a rundown and graffitied wall, one wearing a kilt with matching ascot and hat, while the other wears a head-to-toe leather ensemble. The pictures were taken by British photographer Tariq Zaidi for his new book, 'Sapeurs: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Congo', published by Kehrer Verlag. The book explores the Kinasha and Brazzaville fashion subculture known as La Sape, Soci?et?e des Ambianceurs et des Personnes ?El?egantes - in English, the Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People. mediadrumworld / Tariq Zaidi / Kehrer Verlag
