Photo: Jakub Kaminski/East A sign "The area covered by the state of emergency" is seen below the village name on the night of September 2, 2021 in the village of Usnarz Gorny in southern Poland. Nearby a group of migrants mainly from Afghanistan and Iraq, which currently consists of about 30 people, have been stuck there for at least three weeks. They're being guarded by Polish and Belarusian Border Guards, which prevent them from entering both countries. On September 2, 2021 President of Poland declared a state of emergency on the Polish territories bordering Belarus. The state of emergency hasn't been introduced in Poland since 1981. The affected area is 3 km wide along the Polish-Belarusian border. As of September 3, only residents and workers would be allowed to stay in the 183 border towns and villages covered by the state of emergency.
